Welcome to your Europamundo Trip Style tour!
We will leave at the beginning of the morning. We cross Castilla y León. We stop at TORDESILLAS known for being the site where the Treaty of Tordesillas was signed, with which the Spanish and Portuguese crowns drew an imaginary line in the Atlantic Ocean, leaving the eastern hemisphere for the Crown of Portugal and the western hemisphere for the Crown of Spain. Tordesillas was also the place of confinement of Queen Juana la Loca in her last years until her death.
Continuation to LEÓN where with our guide we visit the city to get to know the fantastic Gothic cathedral of Santa María on the Way of St. James, the basilica of San Isidoro, the majestic former convent of San Marcos today converted into a Parador de Turismo, the Old Town Hall and Casa Botines, one of the three buildings outside Catalonia designed by Antonio Gaudí, creator of the Basilica of the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona. Time for lunch.
Later we cross the Cantabrian Mountains traveling to Asturias. Arrival at OVIEDO in the middle of the afternoon, capital of the Principality of Asturias. We take a walk with our guide to visit the cathedral of the ninth century, the Calatrava Palace, the Campoamor theater (headquarters of the famous Princess of Asturias Awards), Rua Street and Plaza de la Escandelera. For dinner, we recommend you to taste their famous "cachopos" (breaded beef fillets stuffed with Serrano ham and cheese) and Asturian cider.
We travel between beautiful landscapes of the Picos de Europa, to reach the Autonomous Community of Cantabria. Before arriving in Cantabria, among beautiful landscapes, we visit the Basilica of Covadonga (entrance included), place where the Virgin of Covadonga, patron saint of Asturias, who, according to legend, was with her help that the Christians led by Don Pelayo defeated the Arab army in the Battle of Covadonga in the eighth century.
We continue route following the sea to SANTILLANA DEL MAR, one of the most beautiful villages in Spain with its intact medieval center, popularly known as "the town of the three lies", since according to its inhabitants it is not holy, it is not flat, nor does it have a sea. In its vicinity we visit the Museum of THE CAVES OF ALTAMIRA, (entrance included), where one of the most important rock art places in history, declared World Heritage by UNESCO, is reproduced.
We continue to SANTANDER, capital of Cantabria, maritime city with stunning views between mountains and beaches. With our guide we will know this elegant coastal city and its beautiful bay, highlighting the Palacio de la Magdalena (summer residence of the Spanish royal family in the early twentieth century), the Botín Center, art center on the shores of the Bay of Santander, its cathedral and the beautiful Playa del Sardinero.
The motorway follows the Cantabrian coast, with landscapes of great beauty between the mountains and the sea. BILBAO, arrival in the largest city in the Basque Country. With our guide we will visit the exteriors of the Guggenheim Museum, the old town, the Cathedral, part of the majestic Gran Vía. You will witness the transformation of the architecture around the estuary of the city, converted from an old industrial city into an area of museums, universities and modern buildings of great beauty. You will have free time to have some "pintxos", the gastronomic pride of this city and of Basque cuisine. Continue to MADRID. Arrival in the late afternoon, around 19.30 h.
